A gang of at least seven masked individuals broke into the cellar of Marchesi Antinori, a family-owned Tuscan winery founded in the late 1300s, in Cortona and stole 30,000 bottles of wine valued at €5m (£4.2m). The theft is thought to be the biggest wine heist of its kind in Italy, according to The Guardian.

The perpetrators shut off the alarms and surveillance cameras before using company forklifts to load two large trucks with the stolen bottles and escaped. The winery, Marchesi Antinori, has operated as a family business for centuries.

No details were provided about arrests, the identities of the perpetrators, or the timeline for recovering the stolen wine.
