Emirati-linked companies increased their land ownership in Greater Manchester by 39% over ten years, according to analysis by The Guardian.

The number of land titles owned by UAE-linked firms rose from 51 in 2016 to 168 in 2026. The total area controlled expanded from 73 hectares to 101 hectares, equivalent to 180 to 250 acres.

The Guardian's analysis comes as Manchester's economic ties to the UAE face heightened scrutiny following Manchester City's financial rules scandal. The football club, which has Emirati ownership through the City Football Group, faced investigation over alleged breaches of financial regulations.

The land ownership data reflects a broader pattern of Middle Eastern investment in Manchester. The city's mayor is Andy Burnham.
