Donald Trump announced Friday he is establishing a committee to investigate Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook over mortgage fraud allegations, renewing efforts to remove her from office following a June Supreme Court ruling that her earlier firing was unconstitutional.

Trump said the committee will consult with Justice Department officials to determine whether there is "cause" for Cook's removal. The White House will hold an in-person hearing on 5 November to consider the allegations. The hearing will be closed to the public but transcribed and published.

Cook will be permitted to submit a written statement presenting her own evidence. She will be subject to examination by White House counsel and her own legal representatives.

The move represents a second attempt by Trump to oust Cook. The Supreme Court ruled in June that his earlier firing of Cook violated constitutional protections.
