An independent review commissioned after a 2022 sexual assault at a Travelodge in Maidenhead found that guests remain at risk due to persistent security failures. Room intrusions occurred at nearly one in 10 of the chain's hotels over the summer, according to the 70-page report published Thursday.

The assault involved a man who had been given a copy of a guest's room key. The review identified systemic vulnerabilities in how Travelodge manages key security and guest safety.

Travelodge committed to five specific remedies. The company will create a new policy addressing violence against women and girls. It will improve safety protocols for staff working alone. All reception staff will wear body cameras. The chain will install consistent CCTV systems across all hotels. Mystery shoppers will test key security procedures going forward.

The report's findings suggest that Travelodge's existing safeguards failed to prevent multiple room intrusions. The scale of the problem, affecting approximately one in 10 locations in a single season, indicates the issue extends beyond isolated incidents at individual properties.
